Amazon begins rollout of redesigned Fire TV interface across United States

Amazon has begun rolling out a redesigned user interface for Fire TV streaming devices across the United States, marking the platform’s first major visual overhaul in years. The new Fire TV interface aims to enhance content discovery and simplify navigation as streaming services continue to proliferate. Initially, the update is available on select Fire TV models, including the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

The redesign was first previewed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, according to Amazon. Fire TV owners in the U.S. can now access the updated interface on compatible devices, with plans for broader rollouts later this year.

Why Fire TV Is Getting a Major Redesign

The changes respond to the explosion of streaming content that has made it increasingly difficult for viewers to navigate multiple services. Streaming platforms like Fire TV now function more as content discovery hubs than simple app launchers. The redesign addresses this shift by organizing content more intuitively and reducing visual clutter.

According to Amazon, the new Fire TV interface features rounded corners, varied gradients, consistent typography, and increased spacing between content tiles. These design elements create a cleaner, more modern appearance that prioritizes the content itself over interface elements.

Expanded App Pinning and Simplified Navigation

One significant improvement allows users to pin up to 20 apps on their home screen, a substantial increase from the previous limit of six. The smaller app icons accommodate popular streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Prime Video, Hulu, and HBO Max. This expansion addresses the growing number of streaming subscriptions many households maintain.

Additionally, the navigation bar at the top of the screen has been streamlined into icon-based categories for Movies, TV, Live TV, Sports, and News. The search button is positioned prominently to the left of the Home tab for easy access. Within each category tab, Fire TV surfaces content users are currently watching alongside personalized recommendations from their subscribed services.

Content Organization and Discovery Features

The updated Fire TV interface organizes suggestions in rows labeled “For You,” drawing from services users already subscribe to. The tabs also highlight free streaming movies, top movies and shows, and paid content recommendations. Meanwhile, the Live TV tab centralizes access to live content available across streaming services, broadcast television, or cable subscriptions.

Less frequently used features have been moved under a three-line hamburger menu on the left side. This menu includes Games, Art & Photos, the Appstore, Music Video & Audio, a universal watchlist called “My Stuff,” Settings, and other options.

Alexa+ Integration Enhances Fire TV Experience

Amazon’s AI assistant Alexa+ is integrated into the new interface, allowing users to ask questions on virtually any topic using natural language. Fire TV owners can refine queries or ask follow-up questions while chatting with the AI assistant. The AI can also interact with on-screen content, enabling users to select a movie tile and ask for more information or request similar recommendations based on visual style.

According to Amazon, Alexa+ is available to Prime subscribers as an included benefit. Non-Prime customers can purchase access separately.

Rollout Schedule for Additional Devices

Currently, the new user interface is available on the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), and the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series in the United States. The update is also available on Amazon’s new Ember Artline television series, which features an art display mode when not actively streaming content.

This spring, the redesigned Fire TV interface will expand to additional countries and devices, according to Amazon. The rollout will include the latest generation Fire TV 4K streaming players and various TV models such as the Fire TV 2-Series, Fire TV 4-Series, and Fire TV Omni QLED Series. Partner manufacturers including Hisense, Insignia, Panasonic, and TCL will also receive the update for their Fire TV-enabled televisions.
