Jerian Grant delivered a dramatic buzzer-beating basket to secure Panathinaikos an 82-81 Euroleague victory over Real Madrid at the Telekom Center Athens on Tuesday. The last-second heroics came just two seconds before the final buzzer, capping a thrilling comeback for the Greek powerhouse and completing a season double over the Spanish giants. Meanwhile, Olympiakos suffered a disappointing 108-98 overtime defeat to Dubai despite a remarkable second-half rally.

The win marks Panathinaikos’ 16th victory in 26 Euroleague games this season and came on the club’s 118th birthday. Grant’s game-winning shot sealed what many consider a potential season-changing result for the seven-time European champions, according to Greek basketball analysts.

Panathinaikos Overcomes Early Deficit in Euroleague Clash

Panathinaikos entered the contest attempting to bounce back from an overtime loss to Aris in Greek Basket League play just two days earlier. The Greens struggled in the opening quarter, falling behind 16-26 as Real Madrid dominated early proceedings. However, captain Kostas Sloukas led a spirited comeback that saw Panathinaikos fight back into contention.

The home side seized control in the second half, building a six-point advantage at 73-67. Sloukas orchestrated the offensive effort with precision, finishing the night with a team-high 22 points. Additionally, his leadership proved crucial during the pivotal moments when Real Madrid threatened to pull away.

Grant’s Heroics Seal Victory

Real Madrid regained the lead late in the fourth quarter, moving ahead 78-75 and appearing poised for victory. Nevertheless, Sloukas and Juancho Hernangomez combined for five quick points to restore Panathinaikos’ advantage. Grant then took over in the final seconds, stepping up in the absence of injured MVP Kendrick Nunn to deliver the decisive basket.

Grant contributed 19 points along with seven assists, proving instrumental in the Euroleague victory. His performance exemplified the depth and resilience that has characterized Panathinaikos throughout the season. The buzzer-beater triggered celebrations at the Telekom Center Athens as fans witnessed a memorable triumph over one of Europe’s elite clubs.

Olympiakos Falls Short in Dubai Overtime Thriller

In contrast to Panathinaikos’ success, Olympiakos endured a frustrating evening in Dubai. The Reds trailed 52-40 at halftime and faced a 15-point deficit during the third quarter. Dubai dominated the opening two quarters, leaving Olympiakos with a mountain to climb.

Olympiakos mounted an impressive comeback in the second half, erasing the deficit to force overtime. Evan Fournier hit a spectacular buzzer-beating three-pointer to tie the game at 95-95 and send it to the extra period. Tyler Dorsey led the scoring effort with 18 points, while Fournier added 16 in the losing cause.

Overtime Collapse Costs Olympiakos

The momentum shifted dramatically in overtime as Olympiakos opened with a triple to lead 98-95. However, fatigue appeared to set in as Dubai responded with 13 consecutive unanswered points. The Greek side managed no further scoring in the extra session, ultimately falling 108-98 and dropping to a 16-9 record in Euroleague play.

Both Greek clubs will look to regroup before their next Euroleague fixtures. Panathinaikos aims to build on this momentum-shifting victory, while Olympiakos must address their endurance issues to remain competitive in the playoff race.
